Special Places Transition
I was raised in church and was a church musician from age 12-. At Foss Avenue Baptist Church in Flint MI under the direction of James O. Peoples we sang anthems every Sunday so “high” choral music is apart of my foundation. I felt it was important to start this album with a very instrumental/orchestral musical element.
You Can’t Bead God Giving
Written by Julian. P Miller and Tykeia Robinson
I met Keia a few years ago and realized she had a beautiful voice. I had been working on the track for over a year and one day it hit me that I should include her in the writing. The song is about a concept that I learned in church but has a truly universal message.
Say Yes
This song is loosely based off a gospel song from the 80’s. I have always had an infatuation with Gospel House music. This is my nod to that genre.
The singers featured are friends that vocalized interest in helping me on my album! Recorded in Flint, Michigan and Richmond, Virginia
Shout
After graduating from dental school I lived and worked in Philadelphia and started to do the music at a high-spirited church that did a lot of 'holy dancing.' This is a praise break if you will. This song is an ode to that era and helps the listener realize that this album will be covering many genres.
Honeycomb
This song is a fusion of 4 different musical areas. The first is based off of Flight of the Bumblebee written by Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov for his opera The Tale of Tsar Saltan. There is also a 60’s beach music feel and a Louisiana Zydeco beat that provides a wonderful base for this 50’ feel-good dance craze era song. I originally wrote this song in 2008 and pitched it to Beyonce and Rihanna and it was called “Get your life” but since that term has been hijacked and overused I rewrote it and added a bridge.
Don’t Be Scared
When I lived in Philadelphia my Spinning instructor was always looking for music for the standing run (position 2). Gag whore from my first album Dreambeats captured this element. I felt it was time to revisit this fast paced BPM genre. The words came from a real experience I had at Hampton Homecoming 2013. Can’t go into much detail though lol
Ready to Dance (interlude)
I wanted to give my supporters from social media a chance to help me make this album so all of the shout outs are from some those people.
Champagne
This is my second house song on the album this time even though the music has a gospel feel it has very worldly sounding words. Mary Jane is actually a real person and she is my best friend. The irony is that she has never used “Mary Jane”, which is partly how she got that nickname. Champagne is a euphemism for celebration and so this song is about friendship through good times and bad times.
Bandages
This is my attempt at making a mainstream sounding EDM song. The words came from several different real life situations but I’m sure they are words that a lot of people can relate to. This was the last song I recorded for the album. This is for also for the fans of “Distorted” one of my most popular songs from The Return of Synergy album
New World
While in high school I was apart of the Flint Youth Wind Ensemble and one of my favorite pieces that we performed was the 4th movement of Antonin Dvorak’s Symphony #9 (Symphony From the New World) This song is my interpretation of the theme set to a current dance beat. I wanted this song to be mostly instrumental to show my versatility as an arranger and composer.
Buck With Me
If you know anything about J-setting or Bucking or if you are an 8-count-girl then this song needs no explanation. Straight up dance music. The words describe a situation, which is common in the Black LGBT community of being concerned about a potential partner seeing your “feminine” side.
Mallard
This is my ode to the Ballroom children (Voguing) who gave me my first audience as young producer in the early 2000’s. The Duck Walk is a traditional element of voguing and so Mallard literally is my contribution to the ballroom beats library. Although I have grown as a producer I still wanted to pay homage to where it all began. Instead of having a “commentator” I let the beats do all of the talking.
Yonni Hustle
Where I’m from (Flint, MI) everyone knows how to do line dances like the Electric Slide, Hustle, Wobble Cupid Shuffle so this is my contribution to the genre. A new dance called the Yonni Hustle most of the instructions on how to do the song are in the words but a video will be necessary to teach the world how to really do it! This song features a fellow Hamptonian who is also a fitness instructor and now uses this song as a warm up in her classes.
Special Places
Since this is the title track of the album it has special significance. It marked the realization that I had that I must continue to contribute to music. Making music is apart of my being and so the special places are all of the various musical/dance elements that have been apart of my life over the years.
Bonus : Growth
The last house song on the album features a poem written by a fellow Hamptonian detailing the process of growth. A few years ago I started growing flowers indoors as a hobby. Sunfloweria was the name of my garden and growing those beautiful flowers helped me to see things about the world I had never seen before. Some plants thrive more than others but they are all important creations of God.
Intro Medley
We’re gonna touch the sky
We’re gonna go higher, tough sky

How you set me free
Made me so beautifully thank you Lord
Thank you for sunshine
Thank you for my ear
Thank you for music and all the beauty that is here.

The more you give the more He gives back

Just try it and you’ll see why
I will live so cheerfully because He’s so good to me.
You’re so faithful I thank you Lord
I’m so grateful to know you and I thank you Lord
How you love me in spite of me
You keep on looking out for me I thank you Lord

Shake your body. And if you’re shy I’ll show you how.
Just do what we do and let the music take you out.
Don’t Be Scared
Never will I forget the look you gave me last year.
You came close whispered you missed me but you lips kissed my ear
Its crazy but it’s the way I feel though I’ve been wrong before
You want to make a love appeal but my past makes you unsure
Don’t be scared I know that you want me
Don’t be scared I want to let you know that I’m ready
You know how I get down already
I don’t bite unless you want me to
Take a chance hit me up baby
I’m letting you know right now I want you too.
Its crazy but it’s the way I feel though I’ve been wrong before
You want to make a love appeal but my past makes you unsure
Don’t be scared I know that you want me
Don’t be scared I want to let you know that I’m ready

Champagne
When the sunshine was shining so brightly
And the birds were singing so lovely
When the money was swirling around me
For the good times you stayed right beside me
When the crowd was all around
Girl you kept me on the ground and I thank you for Champagne
When the rain came and washed off the glitter
And the lightning scared off the fair weathers
When the wind blew so hard it shook my foundation
You never left me. Kept me on my rotation.
When the crowd could not be found
You lifted me up off the ground and I thank God for Mary Jane
Don’t want no Nighttrain (Just give me some Champagne)
Don’t want no propane (Just give me that Mary Jane)
Don’t want no Golden Grain (Pour me some Champagne)
Don’t want no cocaine (Pass me the Mary Jane)
When the crowd was all around
Girl you kept me on the ground and I thank you for Champagne and Mary Jane
When the sunshine was shining so brightly
And the birds were singing so lovely
And the rain came and washed off the glitter
And the lightning scared off the fair weathers
When the crowd could not be found
You lifted me up off the ground and I thank God for Champagne and Mary Jane
Don’t want no Nighttrain (Just give me some Champagne)
Don’t want no propane (Just give me that Mary Jane)

Supposed to forgive you but when I try I get mad again
Shame on my big ego when I’m guilty of the same old sin
I’m afraid of the pain and it’s going to hurt
I’ve had these bandages on too long
I’m afraid of the pain and I feel like dirt
It’s time to rip them off and be strong
Time heals all would they say. Will these scars ever fade away?
I need to heal quickly. Can’t let this apology delay
I’m afraid of the pain and it’s going to hurt
I’ve had these bandages on too long
I’m afraid of the pain and I feel like dirt
It’s time to rip them off and be strong
These bandages
(Guitar solo)
Chorus
Supposed to forgive you but when I try I get mad a

Buck With Me
There’s a boy I like
He lives in DC
If he knew how I bucked
Would he still like me?
I am an 8-count girl
And forever shall be
But if you like my beat
Then come buck with me.
I bet this boy thinks that I’m the trade
I wasn’t trying to make him feel this way
Just being myself I give you boy all day
Don’t let this realness fool you
Cuz if you put a beat on
Don’t even have to be my song
I could do this all night long
It doesn’t matter where
And don’t let me crew be there!
I’m gonna BUCK (8x)

Special Places
Carry me to those special places
I wanna go up there
I will roll for you I learned early
Blow it into the air
We’re gonna touch the sky
We’re gonna go higher, touch sky
Things are lining up
Things are lining up, lined up like Giza and Orion
We’re gonna touch the sky
We’re gonna go higher, touch sky
Things are lining up
Things are lining up, lined up like Giza and Orion
Line it up line it up
Line it all the way up
And get a young bull to break it up and roll a
And get a whole bunch of going up in here
And turn the music up and set the atmosphere
Then we get real and we go outside
And we find the 3 stars and our visions collide
Love I know when it’s time I will find you
Fall for you
Would you carry me through?
I will carry you too!
Carry me to those special places
I wanna go up there
I will roll for you I learned early

Growth
And the Sun said let there be growth
Yet our shells of protection are unwilling to release it’s inner radical
Stubbornness against vulnerability breeds maggots of uselessness fit for crows
With the kiss of compassion he whispered let there be growth my child.
You see there’s beauty in soiled souls
Blackened by the fertilizer of past tribulations
Watered by tears of generations past too frequently showered
Beautiful souls pushing past Goliath size pressures of worries beyond your control.
But there’s courage in growth
Anchor your roots in the darkness of the unknown
Trusting that there is a purpose in this pain called growth
All the while the Son is calling you closer with his Light, his life, his love….
His love. Oh his love. His rays of warmth all over
The catalyst to your physical rebirth mimicking him in each your bright petals
"Just watch me grow" you’ll say.
Stubbornness gives way to eagerness
Like the sunflower reaching up to re-up on the Sun every morning
You too will feast on His Son for your spiritual revolution.
There’s immorality in submission to the Father’s Son
Growth ends as it begins… in the hands of the mother earth
Seeds of your journey for the future’s story blown across the land
Sowing your journey into garden of our legacy
Creating a new cycle of light, love and light.
Give me a little sunshine
Give me a little rain and watch me grow
